FAQ
Q. I'm considering producing oil with your trees, is that feasible?
A. Absolutely! You can extract oil from any of the trees we offer.
Q. I'm wanting an olive tree more for aesthetics in landscaping and want one that produces minimal fruit, can you help with that?
A. Olive trees can serve a purely decorative purpose for many. To minimise fruit production, you can prune the tree annually in October and limit watering, which helps to discourage fruiting.
Q. Can I visit and choose a tree?
A. Yes. Please call or email us to arrange an inspection. It is best to visit to view the scale of the tree and plan for its new location, as all of our trees are mature.
Q. What type of olive trees do you have?
A. We have Frantoio, Correggolia and Nevadillo trees.
Frantoio: This Italian variety is highly esteemed for olive oil production and is often considered the backbone of Tuscan olive oils. Frantoio olives yield a medium to robust oil, known for its fruity flavour and slightly peppery finish. The trees are vigorous and adaptable, thriving in a variety of climates, which makes them popular among growers. The oil from Frantoio olives is often used as a benchmark for quality in the olive oil industry.
Coratina (Correggiola): Another standout from Italy, particularly from the Puglia region, the Coratina olive tree is known for its high polyphenol content, which gives the olive oil produced from it a distinct peppery taste and excellent stability. The olives are medium to large in size and can be used for both oil and table olives. Coratina olive oil is appreciated for its robust flavour profile, which includes artichoke and almond notes, making it a favourite for those seeking a more pungent oil.
Nevadillo Blanco: Often simply referred to as Nevadillo, this variety is primarily found in Spain and is known for its dual-purpose olives, suitable for both oil production and table use. It is similar to the Picual variety in terms of oil quality, yielding a high-grade olive oil with a fruity flavour. The trees are resilient and resistant to cold, making them a good choice for growers in regions with cooler climates. Nevadillo Blanco olive oil is noted for its balanced taste and good polyphenol content, contributing to its health benefits and oxidative stability.
Q. How do I know which variety to choose?
A. It depends what you would like it for, if you are wanting a large olive tree purely for landscaping then you can have a look and see what suits your space the most, or should you want it to produce olive oil.
